GlobalNet is an exciting educational project for young people, initiated by the Christchurch City Council (New Zealand). The focus of GlobalNet projects is to encourage young people to participate in activities involving social decision making and social action, and to use modern communications technologies as a means of gathering and communicating information.

Astro’s Quests are specific activities designed to promote the use of the Web. Based around a simple "clue chase", the activities have been designed to encourage the use of the Web as a research tool, thus promoting the development of important information literacy skills.

To be eligible as a winner in Astro’s Quests participants must be resident in New Zealand and aged 16years or under. Overseas visitors are welcome to participate and their contributions will be acknowledged.

No responsibility is accepted for problems that may occur through user error or technical difficulties, which result in answers not being received.

All due care has been taken to ensure that the information used in the Quest is accurate. GlobalNet accepts no responsibility for the quality or accuracy of information contained in sites that are referred to as reference sites.

Because of the nature of the "clue chase", participants in the project will link to external web sites. We cannot be held responsible for the content of these linked sites, though we have been vigilant in monitoring them to ensure that their material is not explicitly harmful or illegal.

GlobalNet and the Astro’s Quest projects encourage parents to be involved with and aware of their children's online experience. Participants under 13 years of age shouldn't submit or post information to the GlobalNet site without the consent of their parent or guardian.

To enter the Quest competitions young people are required to submit contact details that will allow the project organisers to notify successful winners. GlobalNet does not provide any personally identifying information, regardless of its source, to any third party, for any purpose whatsoever. We don't use any information collected from visitors for any marketing or promotional purposes whatsoever, either inside or outside GlobalNet, except as we explicitly state during registration for contests or promotions. In that case, the information collected is used only for the specific contest or promotion.

At the conclusion of a GlobalNet Quest competition all participants' information will be deleted from our records.
